EASTERN TURKEY AND CAPPADOCIA 11 DAYS

 

Day 1. Departure after breakfast in the morning at 8.15 AM for the Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Visit the museum and proceed to the Mausoleum of Ataturk. Continuation to Hattusas. The old capital of Hittites. Lunch on the road. Visit Hattusas. The big temple, the city walls, Lion's Gate, Ground Gate, King's Gate. Proceed to Yazilikaya open air temple. After the visit of the temple we will proceed to Amasya. Dinner and overnight in Amasya.

 

Day 2. Orientation tour in Amasya visit of some Mosques and houses along the Yesilirmak river, dating from the old Ottoman times Climb to the rock dug tombs of Pontus Kings nearby. Proceed to Samsun. Lunch and continuation towards to Jason's Church driving along the Black Sea coast. Dinner and overnight at Piraziz Park Hotel along the Black sea 2 hours driving distance from Trabzon.

 

Day 3 Departure to Trabzon. Orientation tour. Visit St. Sophia Church decorated with beautiful frescoes, continue to Ataturk's house. Visit Ataturk's house and proceed to Sumela monastry located on the cliff of thickly wooded Black Sea Hills. After the visit of Sumela we will proceed to Erzurum. Dinner and Overnight in Erzurum.

 

Day 4 This morning we will explore Erzurum. Yakutiye Complex, Twin Minaret School, built in the 1253 by the Seljukian Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad II. proceed to Ulu Cami located nearby. Lunch in Erzurum in a local traditional restaurant. Proceed to Dogubeyazit driving by the famous Ararat Mountain. Dinner and overnight at Simer Hotel.

 

Day 5 Today we will visit the Ishakpasa Palace built on the slopes of Ararat Mountain in

17th century by the Ottoman governor Ishak Pasha. Proceed to Muradiye waterfalls. Lunch and Proceed to Van. Orientation tour in Van and visit of the castle.

Dinner in a local restaruant and overnight in Akdamar Hotel.

 

Day 6 Departure for the Akdamar Island situated in Van Lake. We will drive about one hour then reach the pier from which we will embark the boat. We will navigate about 30 minutes in Van lake to get to the Island where we will have a chance to swim and visit the well preserved church of Akdamar decorated with beautiful reliefs. After we get back to our minivan we will have drive to Tatvan have lunch and proceed to Urfa. Dinner and overnight in Urfa Pasa Konagi.

 

Day 7 Orientation tour in Urfa. Visit of Holy Carp Pool, Cave of Abraham (where the prophet Abraham was born), Tunnel and the castle. Lunch in Urfa visit the old traditional bazaar of Urfa. Then proceed to Adiyaman via Ataturk Dam. Dinner and overnight in Kervansaray Hotel 30 minutes drive from the top of the Nemrud Mountain.

 

Day 8 Visit Nemrud. The tumulus of the king Anthiochus of the Kommagene kingdom. Visit Arsamea. The cendere bridge and karakus. Lunch on the road. Proceed to Malatya. Dinner and overnight in Malatya Avsar Hotel located in the downtown.

 

Day 9 Proceed Cappadocia on the way we will visit a very interesting town called Darende. In Darende we will visit the Turbe (the holy tomb) of Somuncu baba.

 

Day 10 Visit Cappadocia, Urgup, Sinassos, Cemil, Keslik Monastery, the Onions Valley and it's churches. In the afternoon visit Underground city of Derinkuyu.

 

Day 11 Visit Cappadocia, Visit Goreme and Zelve valleys, wine factorys and much more.
